A fresh political feud has surfaced between the sons of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, as both families clash over their fathers’ ambitions ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
Mohammed Abubakar, one of Atiku’s sons and a key figure in his political movement, accused Governor Mohammed of lacking genuine support for Atiku in both the 2019 and 2023 elections.
He also blamed the governor’s personal ambition for contributing to the division within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This was in response to earlier remarks by the governor’s son, Shamsudeen Bala Mohammed, who said his father would not throw his weight behind Atiku in future polls.
Shamsudeen alleged that Atiku failed to support his father’s 2023 re-election bid and instead aligned himself with political opponents in Bauchi.
“It will be difficult to support him again,” Shamsudeen said. “He didn’t back us in 2023—he sided with the opposition and mobilized local elites against us. We barely got through that election.”
In a sharp rebuttal, Atiku’s son said his father had no involvement in Governor Mohammed’s political challenges and accused the governor of discreetly working with the APC and President Bola Tinubu.
“Atiku has never meddled in your father’s political issues,” Mohammed Abubakar said. “His politics is rooted in national unity, not petty grievances.”
He also pointed out that Governor Mohammed has never genuinely backed Atiku’s presidential bids, and he referenced past allegations—including those from Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike—suggesting that the Bauchi governor covertly undermined Atiku’s campaign in 2023.
He further argued that Governor Mohammed’s ambition to contest the presidency is affecting his leadership role within the PDP Governors’ Forum, contributing to the cracks in party cohesion.
The statement ended with a call for more responsible political engagement. “What the country needs now is focused dialogue and unity, not distractions or blame games,” he said.
