Drug abuse costs eight job seekers teaching slots in Kwara

In a crackdown on drug abuse among public service applicants, eight individuals shortlisted for TESCOM teaching jobs in Kwara have been disqualified after failing drug tests.

TESCOM Chairman Bello Taoheed Abubakar disclosed the development on April 14, stating that the affected candidates tested positive for substances including amphetamine, tramadol, cotinine, marijuana, and benzodiazepine.

The drug screenings were conducted by the NDLEA with full support from Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The disqualified candidates will be replaced by the next highest scorers from their respective local governments, in line with the state’s zero-tolerance policy on drug abuse.

TESCOM emphasized its commitment to protecting students and upholding the integrity of the recruitment process.

The chairman also commended the governor’s continued efforts to ensure fairness and competence in public education appointments.
