The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing a security guard assigned to Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II at the Eid prayer ground.
According to police reports, the attack occurred on Sunday after the Eid prayers while the officer was on duty protecting the Emir.
Another security official sustained injuries during the assault and is currently receiving treatment at Murtala Muhammad Hospital in Kano.
Confirming the arrest, the police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, stated that an investigation was underway.
He also revealed that a senior palace official, ‘Shamakin Kano’ Wada Isyaku, had been invited for questioning regarding the incident.
“The police have commenced an investigation into the incident and have invited the Kano Emirate’s Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for questioning,” Kiyawa said.
The attack occurred amid ongoing tensions in Kano, where rival claims to the Emir’s throne by Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero have led to heightened security concerns.
