A fresh wave of insecurity has hit Katsina State as armed bandits invaded the Tamarke community in Bakori Local Government Area on Sunday night, abducting one person.
The latest attack occurred less than 24 hours after the kidnapping of a prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Mustapha Aliyu Unguwar Mai-Kawo, in Ƙankara Local Government Area.
The development was disclosed by a Northern-based security analyst, Bakatsine, who raised the alarm via his official Twitter handle. In a post shared on Monday morning, he wrote:
“ALERT: Yesterday night, bandits invaded the Tamarke community in Bakori LGA, Katsina State and abducted one person. Just less than 24 hours after the abduction of Sheikh Mustapha Aliyu Unguwar Mai-Kawo in Ƙankara LGA.”
The post tagged prominent figures and officials, including Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda, drawing their attention to the continuous threats posed by bandits in the region.
Residents of the affected communities have reportedly been thrown into panic as fear spreads over the increasing frequency of abductions in the state.
While the identity of the abducted victim in Tamarke has not yet been confirmed, locals say the attackers arrived on motorcycles, firing sporadically to scare people away before taking their victim.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, and it remains unclear if any rescue operations have been initiated.
Katsina State, like many parts of the North-West, has faced persistent threats from armed groups who often carry out raids on villages, targeting residents for ransom.
The recent string of abductions has reignited concerns over the safety of rural communities and the effectiveness of current security strategies in tackling the growing menace.
