Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has neutralized a terrorist cell tied to the Islamic State (IS) in the country’s western Kurdistan Province.
This was according to a statement released by the IRGC’s Hamzeh Seyyed Al-Shohada Base.
The statement revealed that the militants, were foreign nationals trained by IS.
It further stated that they have been planning suicide bombings during the Nowruz festivities, which mark the Persian New Year beginning on March 21.
Security and intelligence agencies in the province reportedly identified the group’s presence in advance, enabling what was described as a swift and effective IRGC counter-operation.
All members of the cell were killed, though authorities did not disclose the number of individuals involved or the precise timing of the raid.
