Wike targets completion of 14 key road projects in FCT under 2025 budget

-

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that part of the proposed N1.78 trillion 2025 budget for the FCT will be dedicated to completing 14 major road projects currently underway across the territory.

Wike made this known in Abuja on Wednesday while presenting the budget proposal before the Senate and House Committees on the FCT.

He explained that capital projects would take the lion’s share of the budget, with N1.28 trillion—about 72.3 percent—earmarked for infrastructure development.

Meanwhile, N494.1 billion, representing 27.7 percent, has been set aside for recurrent spending.

According to the minister, the road projects, which cover both the city centre and satellite towns, will be implemented by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) and the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD).

The FCDA is set to receive N801.5 billion, while the STDD will get N137 billion to carry out its own capital works.

Among the key projects listed for completion are Roads B6 and B12, the full development of Arterial Road N20 from the Northern Parkway to the Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX), and engineering infrastructure for the Guzape, Wuye, and Maitama II districts.

Also included are the extension of the Inner Southern Expressway (ISEX) from Southern Parkway to Ring Road II, the development of FCT Highway 105 (Kuje Road) stretching from the Airport Expressway to the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX), with a connecting spur at Kyami District.

Other projects earmarked for completion are the Northern Parkway from Ring Road II to Ring Road III (6.2 km), the continuation of Arterial Road N20 from Arterial Road N5, and the rehabilitation of the Old Keffi Road.

Wike also listed the construction of Arterial Road N1 between Wuye District and Ring Road II, the creation of access roads to FCT bus terminals, the dualisation and upgrade of the Ushafa-War College/Army Checkpoint Road, and the construction of the Pai-Gomani Road in Kwali Area Council. The dualisation of the Kuje-Gwagwalada Road is also on the agenda.

He assured that the 14 projects would be accelerated and delivered before the end of 2025.

Wike added that once completed, the road projects will ease traffic congestion and cut down travel time within the capital and its environs.
