Updated: JAMB gives reason for withholding results of 39,834 candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has withheld the results of 39,834 candidates who sat for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) over alleged exam malpractices.

The board made this announcement on May 9, 2025, during the official release of the UTME results. JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, stated that the withheld results were linked to various irregularities discovered during and after the examination process.

Out of over 1.9 million registered candidates, 80 individuals are currently being investigated for offences ranging from impersonation to cheating, with Anambra State recording the highest number of suspects at 14.

Prof. Oloyede also disclosed that among the successful candidates, 467 were identified as underage applicants, and 50 of them were implicated in examination misconduct. The board is holding a press briefing to provide more insight into its findings and next steps.
