Three people, including two Chinese expatriates and a police officer, were killed following an armed ambush in Uturu, Abia State, on April 4, 2025.
The group, which was en route to a company facility in Agukwu-Amaya, Ndundu Community, came under attack from unidentified assailants.
According to a statement issued by DSP Maureen Chinaka on behalf of Police Commissioner Danladi Isa, the victims were Mr. Quan and Mr. Cai—both Chinese nationals—and Inspector Audu Saidu. The attackers also seized the late officer’s service rifle.
In a swift response, a combined team of police, military personnel, and other security forces rescued four other Chinese citizens and two policemen.
One expatriate and a police officer, Inspector Uba Ahmed, suffered injuries and are currently receiving medical attention at FMC Abakaliki.
The search-and-rescue mission continued into the following day, with the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) leading tactical units to the crime scene. Another officer, Inspector Ijeagwa Friday, was successfully recovered without harm.
Police Commissioner Isa has launched an investigation and vowed to track down the perpetrators.
He also appealed to residents of Abia to maintain vigilance and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement agencies.
