Public sector workers in the UK, including nurses, doctors, teachers, and armed forces personnel, have been offered pay rises ranging from 3.6% to 4.5%. The decision follows the government’s acceptance of recommendations from independent pay review bodies, exceeding the 2.8% initially budgeted by the Treasury.
The pay increases vary by profession, with NHS staff receiving 3.6%, doctors and teachers getting 4%, and armed forces personnel receiving the highest rise at 4.5%. Senior NHS managers and senior civil servants will get a 3.25% rise.
The pay awards come amid fluctuating inflation, which rose to 3.5% in April and is expected to peak at 3.7% in the coming months. The government claims frontline services will remain unaffected, but education unions warn that school budgets could be strained without further funding.
