The traditional head of Mantau village in Yarmaulu, Baure LGA, Iliya Mantau, has been stripped of his title by the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruq Faruq, amid grave accusations of kidnapping and sexual violence.
The Emir’s decision was announced on Monday following rising tension in the community, including protests led by youth groups.
The youths claimed Mantau and others were behind the abduction of a woman, Zulaihatu, and her infant, and alleged she was raped after her family paid a ransom of N20 million.
The incident had been under legal investigation for nearly a year, leading to criticism of the Emirate for its delayed response.
Speaking on the matter, Emir Faruq emphasized zero tolerance for injustice or abuse by those in positions of authority.
“This Emirate has previously removed a traditional leader it had appointed, and even Sarki Abdurrahman once ordered the imprisonment of his own son over wrongdoing,” he noted.
He added, “If anyone feels wrong, even if it is my own child who is responsible, they should come forward and present their complaint to the Emirate.”
The Emir confirmed that Mantau’s dismissal was immediate and assured that a new village head would be named shortly, stressing the need for upright leadership.
He further urged the public to avoid spreading unverified stories and to pursue justice through legal and peaceful means.
