An 18-year-old apprentice in Anambra State has reportedly impregnated 10 girls within a five-month period, including his master’s daughter and a salesgirl, raising alarm among community members and state authorities.
The shocking case was made public by the Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, during a live video broadcast.
She explained that the young man was sent to serve under a trader but within three months had allegedly impregnated two girls — his master’s daughter and another working at the shop. As a result, he was sent away from the apprenticeship.
Things took a more troubling turn when he returned to his village, where he allegedly impregnated eight more girls in just two months.
“This matter has gone beyond what I can handle,” Obinabo said. “His mother came to my office and told me that anytime she sees a young girl approaching their house, her heart skips. She pleaded for help.”
Obinabo said she asked the boy what he told the girls to convince them, and he reportedly claimed he simply told them he loved them and planned to marry them when he became rich.
The commissioner described the case as disturbing, considering the boy’s age and the number of girls involved. She did not reveal the names of those involved or the specific community, but she called on members of the public to suggest possible solutions, even questioning whether the issue could have spiritual undertones.
The case has since sparked debate both online and offline, with many calling for urgent intervention and support for the affected girls.
