Zimbabwe’s cash reward raises stakes in Nigeria clash

Nigeria’s qualification race for the 2026 FIFA World Cup has taken a new turn, with Zimbabwean players being offered significant financial motivation to stage an upset.

Zimbabwe’s national team, including coaches and staff, had initially been promised a $150,000 bonus from their government if they triumphed over Benin.

However, the match ended in a 2-2 draw. To further fuel their campaign, an additional $150,000 has been pledged should they defeat Nigeria’s Super Eagles in their upcoming clash in Uyo.

The incentive serves as both a boost for the Warriors and a challenge for Nigeria, whose qualification run has been underwhelming.

The Super Eagles have failed to win some match outings, placing them fifth in Group C behind Rwanda, South Africa, Benin.
