Tottenham crumble as Liverpool cruise to Carabao cup final

Tottenham Hotspur suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg, crashing out of the competition with an aggregate score of 4-1. Despite holding a 1-0 advantage from the first leg, Spurs failed to register a single shot on target at Anfield, missing their chance to face Newcastle in the final at Wembley on March 16.

Liverpool dominated the match, with goals from Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Virgil van Dijk securing a commanding victory for the Premier League leaders. Spurs’ lackluster display drew heavy criticism from Sky Sports pundits Jamie Carragher and Jamie Redknapp, who labeled the performance as “horrendous” and “shocking.”

Redknapp, a former Spurs midfielder, expressed disbelief at the team’s lack of fight, stating, “I cannot remember a team in my lifetime going down with less of a fight than what Spurs did today. Not having a single shot on target in a semi-final second leg when you’re trying to change the course of history is unacceptable.”

The absence of leadership was also a major talking point, with Redknapp highlighting the struggles of young players like Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall.

He criticized the lack of guidance from senior squad members, emphasizing, “You have young players who are trying their best, but I was looking at the experienced ones to lead and set the tempo. They didn’t do that at all.”

Despite the backlash, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou remained indifferent to the criticism.

In response to the pundits’ damning assessment, he stated, “I don’t care and I’m not bothered about people’s views.”

With their Carabao Cup hopes in tatters, Spurs must now refocus as they aim to salvage their season in other competitions.

Meanwhile, Liverpool march on, setting up a showdown with Newcastle in the final at Wembley.
