Power Outage: Students in Delta take WAEC exam using torchlight

-

Students of Unity Model School in Asaba, Delta State, were reportedly made to sit for a WAEC examination late into the evening without electricity, relying on torchlights to see their answer sheets.

A video circulating online shows the candidates in a dark classroom, illuminated only by a single torchlight. In the footage, a woman can be heard expressing concern over the situation, blaming the authorities for allowing such an ordeal.

She alleged that the exam was scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. but was delayed until around 6 p.m., by which time it was already dark. With no electricity in the school, the students had to proceed under makeshift lighting.

“This is not acceptable,” the woman said, lamenting the conditions.

She recalled that even during earlier times when lanterns were common, students were not subjected to such hardship during examinations.
