The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its zonal congresses initially scheduled for Saturday, April 12, 2025, in the North Central, South-South, and South-West zones.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, who said the decision was taken in consideration of recent violent incidents in Plateau State.
The move, according to him, is meant to show support for the people and leadership of the state following the tragic events.
The party also noted that the rescheduling would give room for state governors from the affected zones to attend the PDP Governors’ Forum meeting scheduled to be held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on April 13 and 14.
As per the updated arrangement, the South-West zonal congress will now hold on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, while new dates for the North Central and South-South congresses will be announced later.
In the interim, the PDP has directed the caretaker committee headed by Chief Emmanuel Ogidi to continue managing party affairs in the South-South zone until a new leadership is elected.
The party urged all relevant stakeholders, including members, INEC, security agencies, and the press, to take note of the changes and act accordingly.
