PDP heading for total collapse – Fayose

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has expressed deep concern over the current state of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning that the party risks complete collapse if swift and genuine reconciliation efforts are not initiated.

During an appearance on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme aired on Friday, Fayose painted a grim picture of the PDP’s internal crisis.

He blamed unresolved disputes, poor leadership, and the absence of a clear direction for the party’s ongoing instability.

According to him, the party has been plagued by infighting and personal ambitions, with members prioritising self-interest over unity.

“Everyone is pursuing their personal agenda—power for power, strength for strength. No one is willing to make sacrifices for the greater good,” he said.

Using proverbs and imagery to illustrate the PDP’s fractured state, Fayose described the party as disjointed and ineffective.

“People are guarding their tea, their cup, and their space. When you sweep with a single broom, it doesn’t clean well. The party is in pieces,” he added.

Fayose didn’t mince words when speaking about the leadership vacuum within the PDP’s National Working Committee.

He questioned the chain of command, asking rhetorically, “Where is the leadership? Who is giving direction? Where is the unity?”

He made it clear that the party’s current situation was unprecedented and troubling, but noted that he wasn’t interested in assigning blame.

“The responsibility lies with the National Working Committee. They must act,” he said.

Fayose also emphasised the importance of respecting court rulings, particularly decisions of the Supreme Court on party matters.

He warned that ignoring judicial decisions could further destabilise the party, saying, “You can’t build anything on a foundation of illegality. The court’s verdict is final and binding.”

Speaking on internal party conflicts, Fayose called for strategic engagement with figures like former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

Referring to him as a political force, Fayose remarked, “When someone tells you they’re coming to your house and they show up, it means business. Wike is a bulldozer—you don’t confront him, you engage him wisely.”

On the subject of power rotation, Fayose advocated for the South to retain the presidency after President Bola Tinubu’s first term, warning against shifting leadership back to the North.

He concluded by stating that unless a major shift happens within the PDP, it will struggle to survive, let alone thrive. “It will take a miracle to get this party back on track,” he said.
