Opposition shouldn’t control Abuja in 2027 – Ganduje

Abdullahi Ganduje, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has stressed that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is too significant to be governed by the opposition in the 2027 elections.

He made this statement on Thursday in Abuja while welcoming defectors from opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), into the APC.

The new members were led by Chris Maikalangu, Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), during a gathering at the old parade ground.

Ganduje said the defection reflects a growing confidence in the APC among FCT residents.

He added that the party’s performance and inclusivity, especially under President Bola Tinubu, have contributed to its expanding support base.

He noted that as the nation’s capital and administrative center, Abuja holds symbolic and strategic importance and should not be under the control of opposition parties.

Highlighting President Tinubu’s efforts to appoint indigenous FCT residents into key positions, Ganduje described the growing wave of defections as evidence of the party’s national appeal and credibility.

At the event tagged “Abuja Unity Rally,” Minister of Special Duties Zephaniah Jisalo praised the president for fulfilling his promise to include Abuja natives in his government.

Jisalo, who is also from the FCT, said the administration is serious about empowering local communities.

Also speaking, Minister of State for the FCT, Mariya Bunkure, urged residents to maintain their support for the APC, assuring them of continued development and welfare programs.

The event saw the attendance of several notable figures, including Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, council chairpersons, councillors, and APC leaders from across the country.
