Joe Igbokwe, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, has issued a stern warning about the potential repercussions if Nigeria continues to neglect the South-East region.
Igbokwe made the remarks in a statement shared via his Facebook account on Saturday, expressing his concern over the ongoing discussions surrounding the composition of appointments under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
This comes in the wake of criticisms from Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South, who recently condemned the perceived imbalance in Tinubu’s appointments, suggesting that it could backfire.
In response, the presidency defended the appointments, stating that they were made based on merit.
However, Igbokwe responded to the controversy by highlighting the importance of addressing regional neglect, particularly in the South-East.
He stated, “If Nigeria continues to treat the South-East as if it doesn’t exist or doesn’t matter, the consequences will be severe. Although the civil war has ended, the scars remain. Injustice anywhere threatens justice everywhere. Neglecting the South-East is harmful.”
