Anambra not up for grabs like Edo – Soludo

Governor Charles Soludo has dismissed the chances of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winning the upcoming governorship election in Anambra State, scheduled for November 8, 2025. According to him, the APC lacks the grassroots presence necessary to make an impact in the state.

Soludo, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), shared his views during a recent interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time.

He was reacting to repeated statements by APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, who had mentioned that the party was targeting key southern opposition states—namely Anambra, Edo, Oyo, and Osun. After the APC secured victory in Edo last year, Ganduje had hinted that Anambra would be the next on the list.

But Soludo pushed back on that narrative, insisting that Anambra’s political reality is different from other states where the APC has had some success.

He said comparisons to Edo, Kogi, or Imo were inaccurate.

“In Imo and Kogi, the APC was already in power and simply retained control. In Edo, they had a considerable presence in both the state and national assemblies, which made it a close contest. That’s not the case in Anambra,” Soludo explained.

He further pointed out that the APC has never had any significant showing in Anambra politics.

“They’ve never won a councillorship seat. In previous elections, their vote share has been consistently low—barely hitting 3 to 4 percent,” he said.

Despite expressing confidence, Soludo said his party will approach the election with the mindset of underdogs.

“We won’t assume anything. We’ll treat this election like a serious fight. No contest should be underestimated,” he stated.

On the issue of possible federal interference, the governor said he believes the institutions responsible for the election will remain neutral.

“I trust in INEC, in the President, and in the Federal Government to uphold democratic values and ensure fairness,” he added.

Soludo also used the opportunity to highlight some of his administration’s achievements, particularly in areas like security, education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

He said his focus remains on delivering meaningful development and improving the lives of Anambra residents.
