A deadly confrontation between police operatives and a group of armed criminals on the outskirts of Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, has resulted in the death of a well-known bandit leader, Hamisu Mopol.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday afternoon during a routine patrol by personnel of the Dutsin-Ma Police Division near the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) permanent site.
According to a security analyst known as Bakatsine, who shared the update on X (formerly Twitter), the police encountered Mopol’s gang and engaged them in a gun duel.
Hamisu Mopol, identified as the son of Hajiya Lamiso—a woman often accused by locals of supporting criminal elements—was killed during the firefight.
“Dutsin-Ma Police confronted bandits near FUDMA. In the exchange, Hamisu Mopol, believed to be the son of Hajiya Lamiso—frequently linked to bandit activity—was taken down,” Bakatsine posted.
Though news of the encounter has spread widely, the Katsina State Police Command has yet to release an official statement confirming the operation.
