Legal practitioner and human rights advocate, Dele Farotimi, has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Peter Obi should the former Anambra governor enter the 2027 presidential race.
Farotimi shared his position during an appearance on Sunday Politics, a programme aired by Channels Television.
He also criticised the early political focus on the next election cycle, calling it a distraction from the country’s pressing challenges.
“If a credible election were to take place today and the same candidates from 2023 were contesting, my vote would go to Peter Obi,” Farotimi stated.
He added that while he hopes Obi would be more assertive in outlining his policy direction, his support is grounded in Obi’s proven capacity and integrity.
“I would only reconsider if he aligns himself with individuals I find morally or politically unacceptable,” he explained. “Apart from that, I see no reason to change my stance.”
Farotimi also condemned the premature discussions surrounding 2027, stressing that Nigeria’s current state demands deeper reflection rather than political speculation.
“Engaging in election talk now is counterproductive. We need to address the fundamental issues facing our nation before thinking about voting again,” he said.
He concluded by saying his continued support for Obi is rooted in a genuine desire for national transformation.
