Over 300 houses destroyed as storm wreaks havoc across Katsina

-

A powerful windstorm accompanied by rain tore through several communities in Katsina State on Wednesday, leaving a trail of destruction that affected more than 300 homes and displaced numerous residents.

The brief but intense storm occurred after evening prayers and lasted only about 15 minutes, yet its impact was severe. Roofing sheets and timber were seen flying through the air as buildings crumbled.

Communities most affected include Kukar-Gesa, Shinkafi, Sabuwar Unguwar Modoji Gabas, Ambassador Quarters, and several parts of Jibia Local Government Area. Many families, including newly married couples, were forced into homelessness.

Residents have called on the government for immediate support. Maryam Muhammad, who suffered injuries during the incident, said: “The only room I had was destroyed while I was inside. I was injured, but thankfully, my children were not home. I invested all I had into building that room.”

Another affected individual, Mubarak Rabi’u, appealed to the authorities, saying, “We are in a desperate situation. Even though we accept this as the will of God, our families are now left without shelter or resources.”

Community leader, Aminu Jafaru, urged state officials and SEMA to visit the scene and provide assistance.

“This storm has left many people in critical need. We are pleading with Governor Radda and other well-meaning citizens to come to our aid.”
