The Chairman of Ose Local Government Area, Clement Kolapo Ojo, has confirmed the tragic killing of Nelson Adepoyigi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward 5 Chairman, who was kidnapped last week by armed assailants outside his home.
Initially, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of ₦100 million from Adepoyigi’s family. After negotiations, the amount was lowered to ₦5 million.
In a bid to secure his release, two volunteers went to deliver the ransom but were themselves abducted by the kidnappers, who then raised the ransom demand to ₦30 million for their freedom.
Fortunately, the two individuals were later released unharmed.
Ojo expressed profound grief over Adepoyigi’s death, calling it a devastating loss to both the community and the APC family.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and party members, stating, “The leadership and people of Ose Local Government deeply mourn this loss. His dedication to advancing our party’s cause and his service to the grassroots will always be cherished.”
The council chairman also voiced concern over the escalating security challenges in the area, noting recent close calls that have threatened residents’ safety.
“Security has deteriorated to a dangerous level, threatening the freedom and wellbeing of our people. Just days prior to this incident, another resident barely escaped abduction near his home. These brazen attacks highlight the urgent need for improved safety measures,” he lamented.
