Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, has suspended two Mogajis (family heads) and stripped them of their traditional beads following allegations of involvement in land grabbing.
The suspended chiefs are Kamorudeen Kolawole of the Kukula family in Oke-Ofa Baba Isale, Ibadan North East Local Government, and Samsudeen Bello of the Ekerin Ajengbe family, Isale Osi in Ibadan South West Local Government.
The suspension, which is effective immediately, was announced during a meeting of the Olubadan Land Matters Committee held at the Old Palace, Oja Oba, on Thursday.
The development was confirmed in a statement released on Friday by the monarch’s Chief Press Secretary, Solomon Olugbemiga Ayoade.
Representing the Olubadan at the meeting, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, emphasized that the suspension is indefinite and will remain so unless the affected individuals take appropriate corrective actions.
“You have continuously been cautioned against actions such as land grabbing, encroachment, and the oppression of family members or residents under your domain,” the monarch said.
Both Mogajis were warned to desist from parading themselves as title holders, with law enforcement authorities instructed to arrest any violators of this directive.
The monarch also criticized several other Mogajis and Baales who ignored invitations to appear before the Land Matters Committee, warning that their defiance could cost them their titles.
Among the dignitaries at the meeting were Oba Abiodun Kola Daisi (Ashipa Olubadan), Oba Dauda Abiodun Azees (Ashipa Balogun), Oba Salaudeen Hamidu Ajibade (Ekerin Olubadan), Chief Isiaka Akinpelu (Special Adviser on Chieftaincy Matters), and other committee members including Mogaji Ariori, Mogaji Adeleke Lukman, and Mogaji Abdul Rasaq Akinola.
