Ohanaeze accuses JAMB of marginalisation, demands 300 extra score for South-East candidates

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council has opposed the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s plan to conduct a supplementary UTME for candidates in Lagos and the South-East, following technical errors in score computation.

JAMB had earlier confirmed that some candidates’ results were distorted due to system errors, prompting the announcement of a new round of testing for the affected group.

Reacting to this on Thursday, the Youth Council’s President, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, expressed outrage, calling the proposed exam an additional burden on already traumatised students.

He described the move as “completely unacceptable,” insisting that the students should not be subjected to further hardship for a mistake not of their making.

“These students have gone through enough psychological trauma,” he said. “They’re in no condition to prepare for or sit another examination.”

Okwu criticised JAMB for not taking responsibility and passing the consequences on to families already struggling with financial and security challenges.

He demanded immediate redress, proposing that each affected candidate in the South-East be given a base score of 300, emphasising the academic potential of students from the region.

He further alleged that the situation appeared intentional, aimed at excluding South-East youths from higher education opportunities.

“This seems like a systemic attempt to marginalise our region,” Okwu concluded.
