The Nasarawa State Police Command has captured a notorious criminal, Abashe Gizo, who had long evaded authorities for his involvement in kidnapping and cattle theft.
The arrest was made during a targeted police operation in Shinge Market, located in Lafia.
This development was confirmed on Sunday by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, who revealed that Gizo had been on the command’s radar for an extended time due to his repeated involvement in high-profile crimes.
According to Nansel, officers from the State Criminal Investigation Department tracked and apprehended the suspect on Saturday through a coordinated intelligence-led operation.
“During questioning, the suspect admitted to his crimes and guided the team to his hideout in Ruwan Baka village, Doma Local Government Area, where an AK-49 rifle with serial number 453144 and a magazine were discovered in his possession,” the statement added.
This arrest follows closely behind that of Fatima Salisu, who was detained while attempting to smuggle ammunition from Doma to Katsina State for use by criminal gangs.
Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, reiterated the command’s commitment to eliminating criminal threats and urged residents to remain alert and continue reporting suspicious activities to support law enforcement efforts across the state.
