The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has revealed plans to discontinue cash payments at all its post office locations nationwide starting July 1, 2025.
In a statement released by its Director of Corporate Communications, Franklin Alao, on Monday, the agency announced that all transactions will strictly be conducted through approved electronic payment methods from that date.
This move is part of NIPOST’s ongoing efforts to modernize its operations and align with digital innovations under the theme “Change of Renewed Hope Berths at NIPOST Shores.” The reforms are in support of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The statement noted: “Beginning July 1, 2025, customers will no longer be able to pay with cash at any post office counter across the country. All services must be paid for using authorized digital channels.”
According to NIPOST, this transition to a cashless model is aimed at boosting efficiency, enhancing security, and ensuring more transparent services. The initiative is also designed to reposition the postal service as a key player in Nigeria’s digital economy.
The agency also commended the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, for his leadership and support in driving these reforms.
