Simon Agbo, an officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service newly posted to Benue, was kidnapped Sunday evening in Makurdi by gunmen who invaded his residence and whisked him away in front of witnesses.
The attackers, who arrived around 7:15 p.m., fired multiple shots to scare away neighbors before singling out and taking Agbo.
The abduction happened near NKST Church, Kuan, behind the Modern Market area.
Community youths and local vigilantes immediately organized a night-long search, but the kidnappers had already fled.
Agbo’s brother disclosed that one neighbor—who insisted on meeting Agbo on that day and called repeatedly—was detained after acting suspiciously.
The family has since been contacted by the abductors, who are now demanding N20 million for Agbo’s release. Official responses from the NIS and police remain unavailable as of press time.
