Wike mocks Fubara, says letter to Rivers Assembly useless

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the letter sent by Governor Simi Fubara to the Rivers State House of Assembly regarding budget representation, calling it “useless.”

Wike, who served as the immediate past governor of Rivers State, made this statement during a media chat on Wednesday.

His remarks follow a 48-hour ultimatum issued to Governor Fubara by Rivers Assembly Speaker Martin Amaewhule, demanding that he re-present the 2025 budget.

Amaewhule’s directive came after the Supreme Court, in a ruling delivered by Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim, instructed the 27 lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly to resume their legislative duties immediately.

Reacting to the ongoing political rift in Rivers, Wike accused Fubara of insincerity in his approach to peace in the state.

He argued that the governor should focus on fostering a positive relationship with the legislature rather than engaging in superficial gestures.

“Letter to the Rivers House of Assembly is useless; he’s playing to the gallery,” Wike remarked.
