There was drama in the Nigerian Senate on Thursday, February 20, as Senate President Godswill Akpabio directed Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, to leave the chamber.
The incident stemmed from a dispute over lawmakers’ seating arrangements in the Upper Chamber.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s seat was reassigned, but she refused to accept the new placement, which had been approved by the Senate President.
During the session, Chief Whip Ali Monguno called Akpabio’s attention to what he described as Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s “improper seating position.”
After Monguno concluded his point of order, the Kogi lawmaker raised her voice in an attempt to be heard on the matter.
This led to a confrontation, prompting security personnel from the sergeant-at-arms unit to move in and attempt to escort her out of the plenary.
In a video, the senator continued speaking loudly while security officials surrounded her, urging her to remain calm.
