SGF unveils new performance management system to boost service delivery

George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has launched a new Performance Management System (PMS) aimed at enhancing the efficiency of Nigeria’s public service.

During the launch on Wednesday, Akume explained that the PMS is part of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2025 (FCSSIP).

The system, which will operate within the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), is designed to promote transparency, accountability, and improved performance in public sector operations.

The SGF highlighted that the PMS is intended to hold civil servants accountable by clearly defining roles and expectations.

It utilizes specific Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to monitor progress and ensure individuals meet their set objectives.

“This system will help civil servants fully understand their duties, perform effectively, and reach their goals with measurable results,” Akume stated.

Nnamdi Mbaeri, the Permanent Secretary of the General Services Office, commended Akume’s leadership and emphasized the OSGF’s dedication to implementing the PMS across all government sectors.

Anthony Obioha, the OSGF’s Director of Human Resources, described the PMS launch as a pivotal moment, encouraging all departments, units, and personnel to embrace the system and work towards its successful execution.

Obioha added that the system is designed to encourage continuous development, provide timely feedback, and recognize excellence.

The inauguration ended with the signing of a performance bond by the five Permanent Secretaries within the OSGF. Akume is expected to extend the agreement to department directors, ensuring full compliance and implementation of the system throughout the civil service.
