Residents flee as Benue community faces days of unchecked attacks

The people of Olena in Asa, Otukpo LGA of Benue State, have deserted their homes after enduring days of violent attacks by suspected herdsmen.

Eyewitness accounts confirm that for four consecutive days, the assailants unleashed terror on the community, killing several individuals and abducting others.

With no security intervention in sight, villagers were forced to evacuate late Monday night.

One survivor, who managed to reach Upu with his family, described the ordeal: “We’ve been under siege, crying for help, but no one has come to our rescue. Many have been killed and kidnapped. I barely made it out alive with my family.”

Video footage obtained from the scene shows residents scrambling to escape as the attacks persisted into the night.
