Kano: Fire guts six shops at Kurmi market

A fire has gutted six shops at Kurmi (Yan’ Jagal) Market in Kano, the Kano State Fire Service confirmed on Friday.

In a statement issued to the press by the Fire Service’s Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi, it was revealed that the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday.

The fire was reported to the service around 1:35 a.m. by the Jakara Police Division.

“Upon receiving the distress call, we promptly dispatched a fire truck to the scene to contain the blaze,” Abdullahi said in the statement.

According to the Fire Service, six shops were completely destroyed, but fortunately, there were no casualties. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Fire Service also took the opportunity to remind traders and residents in the area to always switch off electrical appliances and disconnect their power sources when not in use to prevent such incidents.
