JAMB to punish 180 candidates over exam misconduct in 2025 mock UTME

On Thursday, more than 211,000 candidates took part in the 2025 mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), organized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) at various accredited CBT centres nationwide.

Speaking during his monitoring visit to one of the centres in Bwari, Abuja, JAMB’s Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, announced that results from the mock test would be made available by Friday.

He explained that the board was reviewing submissions across all batches to ensure accuracy and fairness before publishing the scores.

The Registrar noted that the purpose of the mock exam was to assess the board’s level of preparedness for the main UTME and to try out new ideas aimed at improving the overall exam experience.

Professor Oloyede pointed out that as candidates become more sophisticated in their tactics, JAMB is also enhancing its systems to prevent malpractice.

He disclosed that, in a strategic move, the board launched a fake website to detect and trap individuals attempting to cheat.

According to him, about 180 candidates fell for the bait and made payments to the decoy platform in hopes of receiving leaked questions.

He emphasized that the act of seeking to cheat is already a breach of the rules, and such candidates would face serious consequences.

Oloyede made it clear that those involved will have their results canceled — not only for UTME but also for Direct Entry where applicable. He urged candidates to avoid giving out their registration details or allowing schools to register on their behalf, as some institutions use such information for self-promotion and to falsely claim academic excellence.

He further warned students against wasting money on fraudulent services, noting that some paid as much as ₦30,000 to gain illegal access to exam content that never existed.

He stressed that hard work remains the only reliable path to success in the examination.

The board has scheduled the main UTME to begin on April 25, 2025, across all approved Computer-Based Test centres in the country.
