Governors Ademola Adeleke of Osun State and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State have intervened in the growing boundary dispute between communities in Iwo and Lagelu local government areas, with the aim of preventing further conflict.
This move comes after the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, raised concerns about violent clashes between the two areas.
Oba Akanbi had informed the governors about escalating tensions, alleging that residents of Lagelu had been attacking Iwo communities, looting farms, and burning homes.
The matter, which is currently under review by the Boundary Commission, has led to fears of more serious violence in the region.
To address the issue, the two governors held a meeting in Ibadan, where they instructed their deputies to urgently visit the affected areas and engage with local stakeholders.
In a statement from Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governors called for restraint from all parties involved and emphasized the importance of resolving the issue through legal means.
The statement read: “We are one people, and any unresolved matters should be peacefully addressed. I commend Governor Seyi Makinde for his swift and proactive response, and our deputy governors will take immediate action on the matter.”
