Former Oyo Governor, Olunloyo dies at 89

Chief Victor Omololu Olunloyo, the former Governor of Oyo State, has passed away at the age of 89, just days before celebrating his 90th birthday.

The news of his death was confirmed through a statement from Barrister Oladapo Ogunwusi, who spoke on behalf of the Olunloyo family.

“With deep sorrow yet gratitude to God, we announce the passing of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, former governor of Oyo State, renowned mathematician, engineer, and technocrat, a few days before his 90th birthday,” the statement read.

Dr. Olunloyo, who was honored with the titles of Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife, was a distinguished public servant with a significant legacy. He was the inaugural Rector of both The Polytechnic, Ibadan, and Kwara State Polytechnic, among several other prestigious roles throughout his career.

“His lifelong dedication to serving the nation and humanity stands as a testament to his legacy, and his family and friends take great pride in his contributions, even as we mourn this tremendous loss,” the statement continued.

The family has requested privacy during this difficult time and confirmed that funeral arrangements are being made to give him a proper send-off.
