The Bauchi State Police Command has flagged what it described as serious security oversights in the Take It Back Movement’s proposed nationwide protest, recommending that organisers postpone the event.
Scheduled for Monday—the same day Nigeria observes National Police Day—the protest has drawn criticism from the police, who believe the timing is questionable and potentially provocative.
CSP Ahmed Wakil, the command’s public relations officer, told reporters that while the constitution guarantees freedom of assembly, such rights must be exercised responsibly.
According to him, the lack of prior notice and absence of a security arrangement undermines the safety of participants and residents alike.
Wakil disclosed that the Police Commissioner had already ordered increased surveillance and patrols in areas considered potential hotspots.
He called on the protest leaders to initiate dialogue with relevant government bodies to air their grievances constructively.
Additionally, the command urged all citizens, especially youth, to steer clear of activities that could threaten public peace. Residents were also encouraged to report any unusual behaviour to security operatives using dedicated hotlines and digital tools.
