Court remands man accused of posing as doctor, causing woman’s death

An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan has ordered the remand of a 55-year-old man, Moyosore Johnson, who is accused of impersonating a doctor and allegedly causing the death of a woman through a surgical procedure.

Johnson, whose residential address was not disclosed, was arraigned on four charges, including conspiracy and culpable homicide.

However, Magistrate Kausarat Ayofe declined to take his plea, citing a lack of jurisdiction over the matter.

She directed the police to transfer the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice and adjourned the case to March 27 for further proceedings.

According to the prosecution, led by Inspector Segun Adegboye, the alleged incident occurred on July 5, 2024, around 10:00 a.m. at Apata Igbala Hospital in Iseyin, Oyo State.

The prosecution alleged that Johnson, without proper medical qualifications, performed surgery on 26-year-old Badirat Adebayo, leading to complications that resulted in her death.

It was further claimed that he removed her womb, which contributed to the fatal outcome.

The prosecution stated that the alleged offences are in violation of Sections 516 and 319 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
