A new protest has broken out in Rivers State as several women gathered in the streets of Port Harcourt to show their support for the state’s Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), and President Bola Tinubu’s decision to declare a state of emergency.
The protesters, carrying banners and placards, voiced strong backing for the federal government’s intervention and urged a detailed probe into what they referred to as “overpriced contracts” allegedly awarded by the suspended administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
This protest follows an earlier demonstration, held just three days ago, where another group of women condemned Fubara’s suspension and rejected the emergency declaration.
President Tinubu had announced a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025, citing political unrest and a collapse of governance.
The declaration led to the suspension of Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all members of the State House of Assembly.
In their absence, Vice Admiral Ibas was appointed to take charge of the state for a six-month emergency period.
Since then, he has made several new appointments and suspended a number of officials from the previous administration.
