Akwa Poly final-year student passes away after collapsing during karate session

A final-year Higher National Diploma (HND) student from the Department of Journalism and Media Studies at Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, has tragically passed away.

The student, known as John, was in his final year at the institution in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.

The incident occurred on Saturday when John, having left his off-campus accommodation for a Karate training session, suddenly collapsed upon entering the training area.

Witnesses said he was quickly rushed to a private clinic but was later transferred to Ikot Ekpene General Hospital for further medical attention.

Mr. Nsoefen Akpan, president of the Journalism and Media Studies Students Association (JAMSSA), who was at the hospital, reported that the doctor at Ikot Ekpene General Hospital confirmed the student was dead on arrival.

In disbelief, John’s fellow students took his body to a church for prayers, hoping for a miracle.

Another spiritual healer attempted to revive him but claimed that John had already passed on to the spiritual realm.

Unable to bring him back, the group eventually returned the body to the mortuary.

The untimely passing of John has left the university community in shock and mourning.
