NANS President retracts bribery, assault allegations, apologises to Seyi Tinubu

-

Atiku Isah, a factional leader of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has apologised publicly and disowned his prior allegations against Seyi Tinubu, son of Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu, calling them baseless and misinformed.

Isah had earlier claimed that Seyi and Minister Ayodele Olawande attempted to offer him a N100 million bribe to endorse President Tinubu, an allegation Seyi Tinubu vehemently rejected. Isah also accused them of orchestrating his abduction and assault.

The tension heightened after Isah declared that he rejected the offer because he couldn’t support a government that had let the people down.

He also alleged he was kidnapped, undressed, and physically attacked on April 15.

However, in a Facebook post on Wednesday titled “Setting the Records Straight/Public Apology to Seyi Tinubu,” Isah admitted that his accusations were based on falsehoods peddled by his rival, Olusola Ladoja.

“In the video, I also alleged that, for what they considered my stubbornness to reject their #100,000,000, I was on the 15th of April 2025 abducted, stripped naked, and thoroughly beaten up, and in connivance with the MD of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), I was taken to the station where an involuntary statement purportedly abdicating my position as NANS President was obtained under duress,” Isah explained.

He further said, “It has become clear that the offer of N100,000,000, which was alleged was made to me to support President Tinubu, was clearly untrue… Ladoja Olusola… fed me lies and half-truths for the sole purpose of achieving his selfish agenda of taking over the reins of the student body.”

Isah also claimed that Ladoja had instilled fear in him by saying Seyi Tinubu could have him eliminated and influence the police to suppress the case.

“It was also Ladoja Olusola who warned me that Mr Seyi Tinubu could order my killing and thereafter instruct the Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, to bury the matter,” he said.

Moreover, Isah confirmed that his claim about Seyi Tinubu deploying thugs to his inauguration was false.

“I made these claims owing to the picture of Seyi Tinubu painted to me by Ladoja Olusola, who swore to me that Seyi was doing everything to ensure I am not alive to serve my tenure as NANS president.

“In fact, I later found out that Mr Seyi was nowhere near the venue,” Isah concluded.
