A female commercial driver in Lagos has called for justice after she was violently attacked by a suspected thug, commonly referred to as an agbero, who allegedly tried to steal her car battery near the Oriental Hotel.
The suspect had reportedly boarded her vehicle under the pretence of being a passenger heading to the Nigerian Law School.
However, the driver said she became suspicious when she saw him fiddling with her car battery through the rearview mirror.
“When I asked him where he was taking my battery, he started beating me,” the victim said in a video, sobbing as she showed her bruised and swollen face.
She explained that the man physically assaulted her, tore her clothes, and dragged her in public while bystanders watched.
The disturbing scene was captured in a viral video that has drawn widespread attention online.
“Look at my face, look at what he did to me. He tore my clothes and battered me. Please, anyone watching this video, help me.
“Call human rights. Is this how a woman trying to survive should be treated?” she cried in Yoruba.
The woman, who earns a living by driving commercially in Lagos, condemned the ongoing harassment faced by female drivers in the state.
“This man must be brought to justice. Let him be an example. I won’t leave him until I get justice. I’m doing a daily job just to survive.
“Is being a female commercial driver in Lagos a crime?” she added, demanding accountability and protection for women in similar professions.
