The Enugu State Police Command has debunked allegations that herdsmen have occupied homes and schools in Eha-Amufu, describing the claims as “false and misleading.”
In a statement on Wednesday, Police Public Relations Officer Daniel Ndukwe clarified that the reported farm settlements were temporary dwellings used by farmers who periodically return to their main residences.
He stressed that while past conflicts had led to temporary displacements in 2021 and 2022, security measures had since restored peace in the area.
Ndukwe highlighted efforts by the Enugu State Government to strengthen security, including deploying special forces and constructing a strategic access road to support farming communities.
He criticized the media outlet behind the report for using unrelated images to create a false narrative.
Following a forensic review, the police confirmed that the images were sourced from past incidents in neighbouring states and misrepresented as recent events.
One such image, posted by Amnesty International regarding an attack in another state, was falsely attributed to Eha-Amufu.
Commissioner of Police Mamman Giwa urged residents to disregard the misinformation and assured them of the police’s continued efforts to maintain law and order.
He also encouraged citizens to report any genuine security concerns through official channels.
