A violent altercation in Baburasa Village, Niger State, ended tragically when a 15-year-old boy was fatally stabbed during a dispute over a girl.
According to sources shared with Zagazola Makama, the incident involved Ragai Dike, 15, and Kefas Monday, 14.
What began as a heated argument between the two quickly escalated when 25-year-old Sunday Baba, a friend of Kefas, intervened.
In the heat of the confrontation, Baba allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed Dike in the chest.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with people struggling to break up the fight before the stabbing occurred.
“They were shouting at each other, and suddenly, Sunday intervened, and everything spiraled. Before we knew it, he had stabbed Ragai,” a local resident recalled.
Dike was quickly taken to the General Hospital in New-Bussa for treatment but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
A hospital spokesperson confirmed that the victim had lost too much blood for any life-saving efforts to succeed. His body was later moved to the morgue for an autopsy.
Community members have expressed shock and grief, with one elder stating, “It’s so painful to see children involved in such violence. What started as a small argument has now cost a life.”
Police have arrested Sunday Baba and other individuals involved in the altercation.
A police spokesperson confirmed the arrests, stating, “The suspects are in custody, and investigations are underway. We will ensure justice is served.”
The incident has raised concerns in the community about youth violence and has prompted calls for better strategies to resolve conflicts peacefully.
