A tense altercation unfolded on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, in Minna, Niger State, when a suspect violently resisted arrest by attacking police officers with a knife and cutlass.
The clash occurred in the Anguwan-Daji area of Chanchaga Local Government, following a distress call that drew officers from the Central Police Division to the scene.
According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the suspect, identified as Bello Mai-danger, obstructed the police while they attempted to arrest another individual. During the intervention, Bello reportedly attacked the officers in a bid to disrupt the operation and secure the release of the suspect in custody.
The confrontation escalated quickly, leading to the suspect being neutralised. One police officer sustained injuries, and another suspect involved was successfully taken into custody.
SP Abiodun stressed that the use of force became necessary to prevent greater harm and ensure public safety. He called on residents to support the police by cooperating with ongoing efforts to rid communities of criminal threats.
He also encouraged citizens to share useful information that could aid in identifying and apprehending offenders, assuring that the police command remains dedicated to upholding peace and security across Niger State.
