A content creator known for his presence on TikTok and Instagram, Muhammad Kabir, has been convicted and sentenced to six months in prison by a Kaduna Federal High Court for publicly defacing the Naira in a viral social media video.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in a statement released on Thursday, disclosed that Kabir was arrested on May 13, 2025, in the Tudun Wada district of Kaduna following the viral incident.
In the video, Kabir, who goes by the username @youngcee0066, was seen flinging Naira notes on the ground and stepping on them while delivering provocative commentary in Hausa. He also openly dared the EFCC to apprehend him, citing his location.
Following his arrest, Kabir was arraigned before Justice R.M. Aikawa on a revised one-count charge related to the unlawful treatment of Nigeria’s legal tender.
After entering a guilty plea, the prosecuting counsel, M.U. Gadaka requested the court to convict and sentence him in accordance with the law.
The judge then handed down a six-month sentence, giving Kabir the option to pay a ₦300,000 fine instead of serving jail time.
The court noted that the action violated the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, specifically Section 21(3), which prohibits the abuse or mutilation of currency.
