Anambra State witnessed another tragic episode of violence on Thursday morning as two people were gunned down at the Agulu-Nanka boundary in Anaocha LGA.
Reports indicate the attack happened at about 10:45 a.m., causing widespread fear in the surrounding communities.
Witnesses say the gunmen escaped on a motorbike immediately after the assault.
Though the reason for the attack remains unclear, a local resident who spoke to The Nation under anonymity alleged that the victims were part of a community security outfit linked to the current state government.
One of the victims was reportedly killed inside a red car, while the other was shot while trying to flee.
While the state police spokesperson did not respond to inquiries, a senior officer confirmed the killings.
“Our Commissioner is highly experienced in field operations and has directed a manhunt for those responsible,” the officer said.
“More details will follow in an official release. For now, the area is stable, and security forces are actively investigating.”
