ISWAP fighters suffer heavy losses as army kills 16 in midnight attack

-

At about 1 a.m. on May 23, 2025, Nigerian forces under Operation Hadin Kai detected movement by ISWAP and Boko Haram elements near Damboa. Without delay, troops launched heavy indirect fire to disrupt the militants’ advance.

The primary objective of the terrorists appeared to be a targeted strike on a brigade in the area.

In response, air support was swiftly mobilized to reinforce ground units in what turned into a prolonged and fierce battle.

After roughly two hours of fighting, the insurgents were forced to pull back, leaving behind at least 16 of their fighters who were neutralized during the combat.

“We acted swiftly and decisively to protect our position,” a senior officer said.

“The situation was stabilized despite an ammunition point being briefly affected during the exchange.”

Pursuit operations are currently underway as troops attempt to apprehend the remnants of the hostile group.
