Authorities in Jigawa State have arrested a 20-year-old man, Muhammad Salisu, for allegedly killing his father, Salisu Abubakar, in the Bakin Kasuwa area of Sara District, Gwaram Local Government Area.
The tragic event, which happened around 10 a.m., was confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Shi’isu Adam, in a statement issued on Monday.
According to the police, the suspect attacked his father with a machete, leaving severe wounds on the neck, chest, and shoulder.
The injured man was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kudu, but was pronounced dead by a medical officer on duty.
DSP Adam explained that the local police division in Sara responded promptly after receiving the report. Officers secured the area, recovered the weapon used, and took the body to the hospital before it was handed over to the family for burial.
The police spokesperson added that the state Commissioner of Police, AT Abdullahi, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for a detailed inquiry.
Although the motive for the attack is still unknown, the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
The command has promised to ensure that the matter is thoroughly investigated and that the suspect faces legal prosecution.
The police are also appealing to the public for any useful information that could assist in the investigation.
