The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has initiated an accelerated review of its 2025 UTME operations following a wave of criticism over score irregularities.
JAMB, which released the UTME results last Friday, said it had been inundated with candidate complaints, prompting a decision to bring forward its annual examination review.
The comprehensive assessment, which usually takes place months after the exam, now covers registration procedures, the conduct of the test, and the release of results.
In a statement issued Monday, JAMB assured the public that all candidates are given fair opportunities to sit for the exam, and any disruptions due to technical issues are promptly addressed by rescheduling affected sessions.
To ensure transparency and accuracy, the board is collaborating with technology experts, top officials from Nigerian tertiary institutions, and members of an African educational research body.
JAMB confirmed that any discovered issues will be dealt with promptly and corrective steps taken without delay.
The move follows widespread dissatisfaction voiced by candidates and their families, many of whom have rejected the results shared last week.
Social media has been awash with allegations of result errors and technical failures during the exams.
Reports indicate that more than 8,000 candidates have submitted complaints, citing malfunctions that may have impacted their performance.
JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin maintained, however, that the published results reflect actual performance levels.
Statistics from the 2025 UTME show that over 78% of candidates scored below the 200 mark out of a possible 400, prompting fresh debates about examination standards and the reliability of the process.
JAMB urged the public to remain patient while the review is ongoing, reiterating its commitment to fairness and maintaining the examination’s integrity.
